Trade-in Policy

Last Updated: 10/10/2026

Bath TCG Ltd, trading as Bath TCG and Norton TCG, purchases selected Trading Card Game single cards and sealed products.

All trade-ins are subject to inspection and acceptance. Prices are dynamic and may change daily based on current market values, condition, customer demand and the stock we already hold.

This policy applies across the company, not per store.

Identification Requirements

Valid photo ID must be presented when completing any trade-in at Bath TCG or Norton TCG.

Accepted identification includes:

  • A valid passport
  • A valid photocard driving licence
  • A valid PASS-accredited proof-of-age card

We reserve the right to refuse identification that we cannot reasonably verify.

For trade-ins with a total value of £50 or more, we will also record the customer’s current home address.

These requirements help us maintain accurate transaction records and protect our stores, customers and the wider community against fraud, theft and the sale of stolen goods.

We keep trade-in records, including identification details and addresses, for 6 years and may share them with the police if asked about stolen goods.

Personal information collected during a trade-in will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Customers Under 18

Customers under the age of 18 cannot complete a trade-in themselves.

They must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who can present valid photo ID and complete the transaction on their behalf.

The accompanying parent or legal guardian will be treated as the person completing the trade-in and receiving the cash or store credit. For trade-ins valued at £50 or more, their current home address will also be required.

We cannot accept trade-ins from an unaccompanied person under the age of 18.

Payout Methods

Trade-ins may be paid using cash or store credit.

The available payout amount will be confirmed before the trade-in is completed.

Once an offer has been accepted and payment has been issued, the trade-in is final.

Cash

Cash payments will normally be provided from the store’s available cash reserves.

If a store is unable to provide the agreed amount in cash, we may offer payment by bank transfer. Bank transfers must be authorised and processed by a company director.

Bank transfers cannot be specifically requested and will only be offered at our discretion.

Store Credit

Store credit is issued through our gift card system and can be used at Bath TCG and Norton TCG, as well as through our applicable online stores.

The agreed amount can be added to a new gift card or an existing gift card provided by the customer.

Store credit:

  • Cannot be exchanged for cash
  • Cannot be used to purchase additional gift cards
  • Does not expire

Gift cards should be treated like cash. We may be unable to replace a lost or damaged gift card unless we can identify and verify its remaining balance.

Single-Card Trade-In Rates

Last year, we temporarily increased our single-card trade-in rates as part of a promotion. We continued offering these enhanced rates after the promotion ended, but our standard rates have now returned to:

  • 70% of our assessed selling price as store credit
  • 50% of our assessed selling price as cash

These rates only apply to individual Trading Card Game single cards that we choose to purchase.

Our assessed selling price may take into account:

  • The card’s condition
  • Current market prices
  • Recent sales information
  • Customer demand
  • The quantity we already have in stock
  • How quickly we reasonably expect the card to sell

Some cards may receive a reduced offer or may not be accepted. This includes newly released cards experiencing significant price changes, cards with limited demand and cards we already hold in sufficient quantities.

Any offer will be confirmed before the trade-in is completed.

Sealed Product Trade-Ins

Sealed Trading Card Game products are assessed individually. The standard single-card percentages do not apply to sealed products.

Offers will be based on:

  • The product’s current market value
  • Its condition
  • Customer demand
  • Our existing stock levels
  • How quickly we reasonably expect it to sell
  • The risk of the product being reprinted or falling in value

All products must be genuinely factory sealed. We may refuse products with damaged, loose, altered or suspicious seals.

Products with significant damage, including tears, dents, crushing, water damage, fading or removed labels, may receive a reduced offer or be refused.

We may request proof of purchase or further information about the origin of sealed products, particularly for new, high-value or unusually large collections.

Right to Refuse a Trade-In

Our staff may refuse to purchase any card, product or collection at their discretion. We are not required to provide a detailed reason for declining a trade-in.

Reasons may include:

  • The condition of the items
  • Low customer demand
  • Excess stock
  • Difficulty verifying authenticity
  • Concerns about ownership, fraud or theft
  • Insufficient cash or store credit availability
  • The size of the collection
  • The time required to process it
  • Failure to provide the required identification or address

We have a zero-tolerance policy towards attempts to pressure, intimidate or abuse staff after a trade-in has been declined.

Failure to respect a member of staff’s decision may result in the customer being refused access to future trade-ins or being banned from Bath TCG and Norton TCG.

Management decisions regarding trade-ins are final unless otherwise stated.

Maximum Payout Value

Staff cannot approve a trade-in payout exceeding £100 without management approval, unless the trade-in has been arranged and authorised in advance.

This applies where an individual item or the combined trade-in is valued at £100 or more.

Management may:

  • Approve the complete trade-in
  • Offer an alternative payment arrangement
  • Reduce the number of items being purchased
  • Ask the customer to return when an authorised manager is present
  • Decline the trade-in

Completing a Trade-In

A trade-in is completed when:

  1. We have inspected the items and made an offer.
  2. The customer has accepted the offer.
  3. The required identification and address details have been provided.
  4. Cash, store credit or an agreed bank transfer has been issued or arranged.

Once completed, all accepted items become the property of Bath TCG Ltd.

Completed trade-ins cannot be reversed. Customers cannot reclaim or repurchase traded items for the amount originally paid to them. If an item is subsequently offered for sale, it may only be purchased at its current retail price.

Customers must ensure they own and have the legal right to sell every item included in a trade-in.

Time Required for Trade-Ins

Trade-ins can take time to process, particularly when they contain large numbers of cards or sealed products.

Unless arranged in advance, trade-ins are processed around the store’s other duties. Serving customers and running scheduled events may need to take priority during busy periods.

We may:

  • Ask you to wait
  • Ask you to return later
  • Arrange another day for the trade-in
  • Agree to retain the collection for later assessment

Items must not be left unattended or without the agreement of a member of staff.

If we agree to retain a collection, the customer must provide their name and contact details. No trade-in is complete until an offer has been accepted and payment has been issued.

Preparing Single Cards

Large collections should be presented:

  • Unsleeved; or
  • In clear penny sleeves

Large collections should not be brought in binders unless agreed with us beforehand.

We may ask customers to remove cards from binders, deck sleeves, toploaders or other protective holders before assessment.

Cards should be reasonably organised before being brought into the store. We may decline unsorted bulk collections or ask the customer to return once the collection has been prepared appropriately.

Newly Released Cards

We do not normally purchase cards from an expansion during its prerelease period unless specifically authorised by management.

We may purchase cards during the first few weeks following a set’s release. However, offers may be reduced because prices during this period can change quickly.

Cards We Cannot Purchase

We may decline:

  • Counterfeit or suspected counterfeit cards
  • Cards that have been materially altered
  • Cards in a condition we cannot reasonably resell
  • Cards with insufficient demand
  • Cards we already hold in sufficient quantities
  • Cards whose ownership or origin causes concern
  • Organised-play promotional cards that are not permitted to be resold

Counterfeit or Suspected Stolen Goods

We do not purchase counterfeit or suspected stolen goods.

Our staff may inspect an item and offer an opinion about its authenticity. However, this should not be treated as a professional authentication or valuation service.

If an item is confirmed or suspected to be counterfeit, we will decline to purchase it and return it to the customer.

Knowingly attempting to sell counterfeit or stolen goods may result in:

  • The trade-in being refused
  • The individual being prohibited from completing future trade-ins
  • The individual being banned from Bath TCG and Norton TCG
  • The matter being reported to the police or another appropriate authority

Valuations Without an Intention to Sell

Our trade-in service is not a free valuation or authentication service.

Staff will not normally evaluate cards, sealed products or complete collections when the customer has no genuine intention of trading them into the company.

If a valuation is required for insurance, private sale or another purpose, we may decline the request or offer a separate paid valuation service where available.
